Waterjet Cutting Abrasives for Precision Cutting

Waterjet cutting abrasives are at the heart of every abrasive waterjet cutting system. Garnet sand (almandine) is the world's most widely used abrasive additive, offering excellent hardness, fracture toughness and uniform grain shape. For special applications, we also offer olivine sand as a cost-effective alternative. Werner Rumler supplies waterjet cutting abrasives in various standard grades from 12/24 mesh to 200 mesh for different requirements and cut qualities. Whether steel, aluminium, glass, stone or composites – with the right cutting abrasive, you achieve clean cut edges with minimal heat impact. We advise you on the right grain size for your material thickness and cutting speed.

12/24 mesh to 200 mesh

Our garnet sand is a natural almandine garnet – a chemically inert, non-metallic mineral. The garnet sand is recovered and processed as river and beach sand in south-eastern India and is known for its hardness and durability. With these properties, garnet sand is versatilely suited for abrasive applications such as sandblasting, high-pressure waterjet, sweeping of galvanised parts or façade cleaning. Both its high specific gravity as well as its chemical properties and wear resistance make it ideal for use as a filter material.

GL10 to GL100

Olivine sand is produced from olivine – a naturally occurring mineral consisting of forsterite (Mg₂SiO₄) and fayalite (Fe₂SiO₄). Hardness, grain shape and density make olivine sand an economical alternative to other blasting media such as silica sand and slag. Since olivine sand contains no chloride ions and no corrosive salts, virtually no conductivity arises on the treated surface; renewed rusting after treatment is prevented and a surface is achieved that meets industrial standards. Olivine sand is suitable for various surfaces, e.g. steel, aluminium, stones and masonry (further surface profiles on request). Olivine sand can be used not only as a standard blasting media but also as a high-speed waterjet cutting media. It contains no free crystalline quartz – the use of silica sand is prohibited in several countries due to the risk of silicosis; the use of olivine sand complies with the applicable health and safety regulations. All types are mined, further processed and classified into several fractions according to the strict rules of the manufacturer's ISO 9001 programme. A constant, uniform grain size distribution and chemical composition guarantee repeatable surface properties and cleanliness.
